Meet the Team – Dan Hewitt
In this series, we introduce some of the people that make up the team at Chandler & Co. Today we meet our newest joiner, Dan Hewitt, Senior Broker.
Can you share with us a little bit about your role and a typical day?
My role as a broker means I advise clients, typically care operators, on their finance requirements. I have known many of my clients for a number of years so I know their businesses very well and I can confidently represent their interests with the banks and debt funds in order to find the right solution to purchase or re-finance their care homes.
My favourite part of the job is certainly meeting passionate business owners and seeing the work they do in their communities.
Much of my time is spent expediting transactions, liaising with all the stakeholders; bankers, solicitors, agents and valuers.
Why did you want to work at Chandler & Co?
As a banker of nearly 20 years, I could see a trend of the friendly bank manager role being slowly removed from the banks, and outsourced to intermediaries; brokers who understand banking and can fill the trusted advisor role once belonging to the Relationship Manager, whilst also being able to negotiate with bank credit departments to source the best finance in the market.
Chandlers have been synonymous with Health and Social Care funding for decades and I always had a good experience dealing with them whilst working for Virgin Money and more recently Cynergy Bank. It was an easy decision.
What do you love most about your role?
The social care community is a very collaborate and supportive one. Everyone is willing to help each other in the interests of delivering good outcomes for service users. Working with wonderful clients makes the job so much more enjoyable.
Finance in the care sector is dominated by smaller lenders who are frequently changing their policies, as such I enjoy being able to take this load from the shoulders of the business owners and let them focus on running their business.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
I enjoy the outdoors, often running, cycling or paddleboarding. An avid gig-goer and always keen to hear new music recommendations.
I live in Cambridge with my 2 children.
If you didn’t work in finance, what you be and why?
Ideally a footballer (for Blackburn Rovers), more realistically an engineer!
